MEMBERS

We thought it might be fun for members to have a space on this site to tell you something about themselves. The members of CODS lead diverse and interesting lives; indeed it is amazing how many somehow manage to fit some drama into a very busy existence!

KATHRYN BEEKEN

Kat in Sleeping Beauty 1991 Kat in the Merry Widow 1996

Kat as a Tiger Club leader

Kathryn first appeared on stage with CODS in Merrie England in 1987 aged 7, she was bought in to had a bouquet of flowers to Queen Elizabeth I.

Since then she has appeared on stage for various musicals, pantomimes and concerts such as Sleeping Beauty in 1991 (see first photo above), The Merry Widow in 1996 (second photo above) and Orpheus in the Underworld in 2001.

She studied for two years at Mid-Kent College and achieved a BTEC National Diploma in Performing Arts specialising in Technical Theatre and Lighting Design. Also during this time she worked at the Hazlitt Theatre in Maidstone as a casual technician and crewed for many touring shows including Think Floyd.

After college, Kathryn went to work for Haven Holidays as a HavenMate at Riviere Sands in Cornwall, where she was a dancer and technician doing lighting and sound for incoming cabarets including The Blues Brothers Tribute and Ray Lewis and the New Drifters. In her second season she was also Tiger Club Leader (see third photo above).
While she was down in Cornwall she also helped Pyrovision with the fireworks for a show at the Army barracks in Plymouth which she says was excellent fun.

Having had a great time at Haven she decided to persue her career and worked for Hammond Pantomimes where she was DSM for Snow White at the Stag Theatre in Sevenoaks (see photo at top on right).

Kathryn went on to work for KAVE Theatre Services in West Sussex for 3 years and at this time attended City Of Westminster College in London and achieved her City and Guilds 1810 Theatre and Entertainment Electricians qualification.

Kathryn has now moved to Derby to work for RAW Lighting Power and has toured world wide with various shows including Cradle Of Filth European Tour (see second photo from top on the right) also, if you click here, you will enjoy some video extracts of parts of the support band, Immolation, who performed at the Cradle of Filth concert, maybe rather noisy but Kat's lighting is extremely effective), CKY UK Tour, Incandescence circus in the Middle East (third photo from top on the right) and A Night At The Musicals UK tour in 2003 and 2004 (second to last photo to the right) in which she was the Lighting Designer.
This past year Kathryn has been busy with producing and directing 'Jesus Christ Superstar' (see previous productions for photo's and reviews) which she thoroughly enjoyed. Toured round Europe with Cradle Of Filth for 7 weeks, on site technician for an arts festival in Bollington nr Macclesfield where she was living in a converted artic trailer bunk wagon for a month!!
She was working at Glastonbury this year where she was unfortunatly in the circus tent that was struck by lightning whilst working over night. She also had the opportunity to visit Ireland for the first time when she covered lighting for Trivium in September.
In December 2005 she was once again living in the bunk wagon for a few days in Bury St Edmonds for a pantomime 'get in' in the circus tent before a two week tour round the UK with Cradle of Filth.
She was very lucky to be given the chance to design the lighting for the professional pantomime at the Assembly Hall in Tunbridge Wells before jetting off to China for 3 months on the 24th Dec to design and light the Incandescence show Elemental, it was the first time that she was away from home for Christmas, New year and her birthday in nearly 26 years.
Now in 2007 she has just designed the lights for the CODS February concert A to Z in Song and Dance and she is now off back to the holiday parks to be Lighting Engineer at Butlins in Minehead, she will be in the Skyline Pavillion (The Big White Tent) so if your there on holiday pop in and say hello unless she's crawling around on truss in the roof somewhere!!!

STEPH BEEKEN

Steph as a Funstar - Summer 2003
Action!

Steph, Kat Beeken's (featured above) younger sister, has been a member of CODS since she was 6 years old and has been in 74 shows with CODS, Showtimers, Lamberhurst, Chippies, Musical Theatre Workshop (MTW) and at Mid Kent College.

She has taken on a number of roles the first of which was in the Sound of Music when she played Gretal, the youngest von Trapp daughter. See the first photo on the right.

She has danced her way through the years but began singing through competitions where she came runner-up in a talent competition at a holiday camp despite suffering from a throat infection.

She became an assistant to Rachel Elliott at MTW, a theatre group for children with whom she loves working. See the second photo.

She has also done a 2 year course at Mid Kent College on the dance pathway which she describes as being the best two years of her life (so far) (see the third photo). She also worked for 2 months during the summer of 2003 at Thorpe Park in Grimsby, British Holidays Park which she enjoyed. She then started working up at Cranbrook Primary School as a Midday Supervisor and then later on in January 2004 started working as a Barmaid/Waitress at the White Horse pub.

In 2005 she left the pub and after a year working with a Jewellery display company, tried a job as a Receptionist in a Dental Practice in Staplehurst. More recently she has worked as a trainee Dental Nurse which she enjoyed for a while. Well, she has again worked back at the pub until that unfortunately fell through so now she is looking for something completely different!

TOM FOY

Tom Foy
Many members of CODS have more than one string to their bow, but this is particularly true of Tom. He has now been an archer for over 50 years and he has been making arrows for much of that time. Here is a picture of his latest task - 180 Victorian arrows for "Daniel Deronda", a costume drama series for BBC, was shown on BBC1 in 2002. Once he had made them, he had the job of shooting them and losing them. Further pictures show how close he had to be not to miss the target! Actually, it was necessary for him to be this close in order to satisfy the director's requirements.

If you click on Tom's "No Photography" photo above, you can visit his own website that promotes his Archery business.
