Cranbrook
Operatic and Dramatic Society
Newsletter February 2002

Mary died recently in a Nursing Home in Tunbridge Wells aged 97. There are few CODS members today who remember her, but in the 50s and 60s everyone in Cranbrook knew Mary. She worked as Housing Manager for Cranbrook Rural District Council. She was so well respected that on her retirement a housing development in Goudhurst was named after her (you may notice the sign by the roadside on the left as you drive down Clay Hill).
She and her sister Frances Drafaer were staunch and active members of CODS for many years both on stage and behind the scenes. Mary served on the committee for many years becoming Secretary and later Chairman.
On the 75th Anniversary Celebration of the CODS in 1995, Jack Parsons, then President, honoured Mary and Len England for their hard work in ensuring the successful revival of the Society after the 1939-45 war.
The success of the CODS today owes a great deal to such dedicated people as Mary Day may she long be remembered.

Letter
The new year is bringing a burst of activity Some Enchanted Evening and Bonaventure. Both are moving forward most satisfactorily and we look forward to seeing you all there.
We have been invited to provide three short periods of entertainment at Batemans in Burwash on May 19th. This will be Edwardian to act as the climax of their celebration weekend. Is anyone interested in joining this group? If so please let me know.
Happy New Year!
